An Introduction

“…so one day my mother sat me down and explained that I couldn’t become an explorer because everything in the world had already been discovered. I’d been born in the wrong century, and I felt cheated.”
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Ransom Riggs)

Welcome to Er4schen!

Just about every how-to article on blogging says that the intro post should give your readers what to expect from you and your site. Well, friends, if I knew, I’d tell ya. Life is inherently unpredictable, and since that’s what I plan to write about, I can’t promise anything except that I plan to run with the theme of exploration.

My parents raised a curious kid – the kind that climbed trees, dug in the dirt, stayed up way too late reading books, and asked a lot of questions about the world. My dad also happened to work in international business and traveled more often than not. His employer was a Swiss-based company, so German was the first foreign language I can recall hearing (hence the name of this blog). I developed a love for travel myself and continued to ask questions, which eventually led me to get my degree in Zoology. It was also in college that I rediscovered my love of writing. I’ve since realized that I’d like to combine the two – science and writing – to eventually eek out some sort of living.

So here I am.

I started this blog as a creative outlet, and also as a means to hold myself accountable and (hopefully) create a real, weekly writing habit. It’s also to force myself to share my writing. I’ll be posting everything and anything – from science to rock climbing to food to DIYs to interviews with interesting people. I may even share a bit of fiction (big “maybe“). This space is going to grow and evolve, but bottom line is, this is a blog dedicated to the indulgence of curiosity, whatever that indulgence may be.

Thanks for joining me on this journey!
